Turkish consumers are gradually replacing motorcycles with electric scooter motorcycles

More and more local Turkish consumers are considering replacing motorcycles with electric scooter motorcycles as their daily means of transportation.

According to official data from the Turkish Statistical Institute:
From 2019 to 2023, Turkey's imports of SKD (semi-loose) electric two-wheelers are increasing year by year, with imports in 2023 reaching about US$54 million, and a growth rate of 59.39% in 2023;
From 2019 to 2023, Turkey's imports of CKD (completely loose) electric two-wheelers are also increasing year by year, with imports in 2023 reaching about US$150 million, an increase of 78.4% compared to 2022;
In January 2023, Turkey's CKD (completely loose) imports were US$9 million, and in January 2024, they were US$6 million, a month-on-month decline of 33.33%.

The main reasons why local Turkish consumers choose electric scooter motorcycles to replace motorcycles are:
1. Reduce commuting costs and easily reduce transportation costs.
2. Have greater driving license advantages:an “A” driving license is needed for motorcycles, and “B” for cars.However, people do not need to get an ‘A’ license to ride e-motorcycles, they can ride with ‘B’ licenses.
3. Save fuel costs

So, what certification do foreign electric bicycles need to be exported to Turkey? Can the EU CE be used?

Although Turkey is not an EU country at present, it is an EU candidate country and a NATO member state. The certification currently used is the EU certification report.

Electric bicycles exported to Turkey need CE and ROHS certification;
The CE test standard for electric bicycles is EN15194;
The information required for CE certification of electric bicycles is:
1. Bicycle sample
2. Product specification manual
3. Product circuit diagram
4. Battery report
